Legislator Ken Jenkins speaks on veto of the bill prohibiting gun shows on county property.
“County resources should not be used to promote violent weapons, plain and simple,” said Legislator Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers), who is the author and sponsor of this legislation every term since 2010. “The County Center is the home of a local basketball team, many of our children have graduated in that building, each weekend it is filled with County residents excited to learn about whatever new exhibit is in town. To profit from this is just not the business Westchester residents want to be in,” concluded Jenkins.
“Today, County Executive Astorino chose to bring thousands of guns into Westchester County instead of heeding the calls of thousands of Westchester residents. The proliferation of guns in our communities is a public health crisis and prohibiting the sale of guns on County property is a good first step in stemming this horrific tide. I encourage all Westchester County residents to make their voice heard and call for an override vote of this Veto,” stated Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining).
